‘Leisure dive’: Summer posers caught mid-air in new photography craze – So Much for Planking!” Leisure Dive ” it is…

Just hangin’ by the pool: Summer posers caught mid-air in new photography craze

They call it the ‘leisure dive’ – and it’s coming to a pool near you this summer.

Following the craze of planking which swept the internet, a website has flourished after compiling hilarious pictures of divers striking a comedy pose in mid-air before they hit the water.

With the motto, ‘live and let dive’, the site recommends just how to get the most out of your split-second posing.

The ideal position is achieved with a diving board, giving swimmers enough height to get their hips parallel to the waterline. If successful then it’s a shot worthy of the family album or at the very least, Facebook.

The people behind LeisureDive.com encourage originality but there seems to be a couple of recurring favourite looks.

The most common is the hand on the hip, with a quizzical look and grasping a beer, book or bizarrely a croquet mallet.

Leisure diving looks set to take the place of planking  – a phenomenon which involves lying face down in a public place, the weirder the better, and posting photos on social networking sites.

The favourite pose is to lie expressionless with a straight body, hands by the side and toes pointing towards the ground.

The website founders ask for the best leisure dives to be sent to them – http://www.leisuredive.com/index.php – to be ranked against other competitors in the new craze.

And although it could make you incredibly popular on the internet, it’s unlikely to do so with other holidaymakers relaxing at the hotel pool.

Incredibly stupid and potentially dangerous as they leisure dive from every increasing heights and with objects that have the potential to damage themselves or others. Multiple dives could result in clashing heads. Someone will die from this as they have with other fads such as planking and owling.

Lemmings. Chase the latest fad because they’re empty of anything but an ego craving social acceptance. How long before someone makes cutting a fad and the lemmings follow?

Arvind Vohora’s “Wall Art in Kenya” Book launch @the MJ Centre

23 years on and I can see, the relevance of his work. Its true History never looks like history when you are living through it. I grew up looking at this art but now its no longer there, as Michael Joseph put it ” We ( Safaricom & Corporate Kenya ) are responsible for ruining the Wall Art in Kenya. ” because its true every Shop in the rural area where this form of art was abundant is either covered with a Splash of green and a Safaricom Logo or its In Red with Airtel branding all over or its OMO or its Coke or some other brand. U could argue that it created more jobs because Corporate Branding offers a more sustainable income, buts still what is Life without Art! I read somewhere that the aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life, I doubt that my little Kaya will see this Art’s Life.

I remember visiting the barber shop in Buru Buru as a kid and choosing a hairstyle of a wall which had a myriad of different styles Painted, I used to love MC hammer so during the schoolholidays I would choose the MC Hammer style which had Slits on the either side. Now i go to the barber and they have photos of Singers/Actors/Athletes with different Hairstyles to choose from…Same in the Butchery, you go and all u see are Photoshoped pictures of a disected Cow with all its limbs and parts in crystal clear Photographs, in my younger days u would choose your choice piece from the Wall art doning the butchery showing the Legs, Liver etc. So much has changed in just 23 years, guess its hightime we so called photographers did our part and actually documented parts of our culture for future reference and for History. What we see around us is only here for a brief period.

I later only realised that I hadnt taken a picture of the great man so i picked this one from the capital website.

Since 1999 Gumball 3000 has successfully combined art, automobiles, music and film to create a unique aspirational lifestyle brand. Headed by Maximillion Cooper, the Gumball 3000 Group now operates eight companies with offices in Europe and the United States.

With a pioneering spirit and an attraction that transcends social barriers our mission is to build a global lifestyle brand of the future.

“Gumball is about challenging tradition and taking a non conventional approach to exploring and developing cultural and creative boundaries” Maximillion Cooper, Founder & CEO, Gumball 3000 Group.

The brand has grown organically from its origins as a notorious car rally, into a successful global lifestyle and entertainment group. In 2007, Forbes magazine valued the Gumball 3000 brand at over $200 million.

Gumball 3000’s audience is unique, appealing to kids in the playground trading Gumball Top Trump Supercars playing cards, to the rich and famous that own and drive the supercars in the annual rally. Through the global language of automobiles and entertainment Gumball 3000 has become an aspirational brand to people of all ages, from all walks of life, regardless of status or wealth. Creating a lifestyle brand that combines sport, music, fashion and cars and with a list of celebrity participants as diverse as Johnny Knoxville to Snoop Dogg, Daryl Hannah to Damon Hill, and Rob Dyrdek to Jodie Kidd Gumball maintains its underground appeal, whilst reaching a mass consumer audience. Also appealing to the luxury market and the lifestyles of the already ‘rich and famous’ this unique ability provides a platform to reach both a mass consumer and high end audience, as well as being able to work with the influential and pioneering of the world.

“Gumball combines individual styles and personalities, and appeals to kids on the street to the billionaires of the world” Xzibit, Rap star & host of MTV’s ‘Pimp My Ride’.
